Journal

Did you know that George Washington kept a prayer journal? It’s intimidatingly eloquent but still inspiring.

I’ve been looking at different virtual journals out there but so far have found that pen to paper works best for me. One of my ongoing prayers is that the Lord will guide me on how best to remember the many petitions for prayer that come my way. Hopefully a journal will be a step in the right direction. I am looking forward to testing out various ways of documenting requests as well as outcomes. I’m also open to suggestions by those who keep a prayer journal or have ideas on how to make it interesting and as least chore like as possible.

Ever have a brilliant idea that you’re about to announce to the world only to google it (yes, google is now a verb) and find that it already exists? I mean come on, what are the chances of a unique idea. Oh well, I’m glad someone thought of this and implemented it because now I get to use it.

I love my new find, which may be old hat to some of you, but I’m super excited and can’t wait to sign up. What I’m gushing about is basically the netflix of books called booksfree.com. This service is especially wonderful for new moms who can’t easily make it to the local library and don’t think their 4 month old with her new found shouting skills would be very much welcome.

Funny, when I thought it was my idea and pitched it to my oh so encouraging husband he said it wasn’t feasible…

So, in light of the media’s recent effort to push a “going green” agenda, I decided to do something I never saw myself doing. Here’s that story:

I am a new mother to a four month old and have become increasingly concerned with the amount of waste I am creating by using disposable diapers. I foresaw this being an issue before our child was born which led my husband and I to discuss our options. We came to the conclusion that because of where we live (no in home washer/dryer, and no place to line dry clothes) disposable diapers were the obvious choice. I never felt completely comfortable with this decision and am now readdressing it.

If money were no option I would ideally want to compare different types of cloth diapers or even test out the fully biodegradable or mostly biodegradable diapers (from Europe of course) to see which I prefer for my family. BUT, money is very much an option so I decided to turn to someone to whom it is not. That’s right, the most influential person in the US…Oprah Winfrey.

Now here’s where the title of this little story comes into play. I don’t watch the Oprah Winfrey show and can’t say that I have ever seen it all the way through. There are many reasons why I don’t watch, like; I don’t have cable and that network comes in poorly or, I don’t like to turn the tv on until after 6 (don’t want to miss Jeopardy). But the most honest reason is that I just plain don’t have an interest in watching it.

With that being said, as a non-watcher of her show do I have the right to ask Ms. Oprah Winfrey to bring to light the length of time disposable diapers sit in our landfills? Or to go even further and ask her to spend her money to compare the alternatives? I don’t know the answer to that but I do know that I asked her and will wait to see if she (someone in her staff) replies…
